Sheila Murphy, SSJ joined the St. Lucy staff in October of 2008. The daughter of the late Henry and MaryAnne Murphy, Sr. Sheila grew up in the Fifth Ward of Newport, the seventh of ten children. She attended St. Augustin School and St. Catherine Academy in Newport. She received her BA from Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, MA and her MA from Salve Regina University in Newport.
Sr. Sheila entered the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Holyoke, MA in 1965. For five years she taught at various Massachusetts Catholic elementary arcoxia 30 mg schools. For the past thirty-five years she has been a first grade teacher at All Saints Academy in Middletown (formerly Newport County Catholic Regional School) where she instituted the extended day and summer camp programs.
As a member of St. Lucy’s Faith Community, Sr. Sheila has taught First Communion classes for thirty-six years. She also volunteers in the soup kitchen; is a member of Helping Hearts, the Stewardship Committee, Liturgy and Spirituality Committee, and a Small Christian Community. As well as being an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion herself, she trains others for this ministry. She is also a member of the new Chicks-in-Charge group. In her free time she likes playing tennis and traveling as well as following her favorite sports teams- the Red Sox and the Patriots.
