Individual classes for all grades will take place between the Sunday morning Masses 9:00 – 10:15AM. It is expected this will make it most convenient (after all, it’s also God’s commandment) for families to attend either the 8:00am Mass or the 10:30am Mass. (Of course, arrangements will be made for situations that may interfere with the schedule of classes, for instance shared custody of children with an out-of-town parent, etc.)
Repeating what we have said, and proven statistically, faith formation (even Catholic Schooling) without weekly Mass attendance is time wasted when it comes to continued practice of the Faith. On the contrary, faith formation programs including the celebration of Sunday Mass only enhances the likelihood of life long faith participation
First Holy Communion classes will be for academic grades 1 and 2.
Grade 2 students will receive the Sacrament in the spring of 2024
Confirmation is a two year preparation program. This year’s academic grades 8 and 9 will receive the Sacrament in the spring of 2024
This years academic grades 6 and 7 will begin preparations to receive the Sacrament in the spring of 2026.
When you had your children baptized you made a promise to raise them in the practice of the faith. Thank you, for fulfilling this responsibility and inviting us to assist you along the way.
Congratulations on the birth of your child! Or, as an adult, welcome to a faith-filled community that eagerly anticipates your communion with the Church.
Baptism at St. Lucy’s – Parents are encouraged to initiate preparation for baptism prior to the child’s birth. At that time a meeting with our Pastor will provide instruction and information. It is expected that parent(s) are registered and active parishioners in the Parish.
Godparents / Sponsors
At least one godparent is required. There may be two, but they must be one man and one woman.
“For the grace of Baptism to unfold, the parents’ help is important. So too is the role of the godfather and godmother, who must be firm believers, able and ready to help the newly baptized – child or adult – on the road of Christian life. Their task is a truly ecclesial function (officium). The whole ecclesial community bears some responsibility for the development and safeguarding of the grace given at Baptism.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1255)
The requirements for godparents are:
SPONSOR CERTIFICATES (for Baptisms and Confirmation)
Congratulations on having been asked to be a Confirmation Sponsor or Baptismal Godparent. In accepting this responsibility you are to be a witness in the practice of the faith and an advocate for Jesus Christ to the teenager, or you will promise to assist the parents of the child in raising their child in the practice of the faith.
If you are a Confirmed Catholic living in full communion with the Church, if today you are a registered and active parishioner of St. Lucy’s, if marrried, married Sacramentaly in the Church, and are an active participant in parish life (you celebrate Mass with us every week) then please speak with Father Codega after the Sunday Mass you usually attend for a sponsor certificate. It doesn't matter where you received sacraments as a child, you must be practicing the faith today. Please do not wait until the week before the ceremony and please do not ask for a sponsor certificate if you do not come to church. Come back to church first!
