Father Codega graduated from Barrington high school and studied civil engineering at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC..
Before priesthood, he worked in the civil and environmental contracting industries for several years. During this time he also pursued a secondary career in maritime services and is a Coast Guard credentialed licensed vessel operator. He had volunteered his time for several organizations in the community and the Catholic Church on the parish and diocesan levels.
He entered the seminary in 1994 at St. Mary’s Pontifical Seminary and University in Baltimore earning a Bachelor of Sacred Theology (S.T.B.) and Master of Divinity (M.Div.). In 1998 he was ordained to the transitional diaconate and in 1999 to the priesthood for the Diocese of Providence.
Fr. Codega has served as parochial vicar and administrator at St. Francis deSales, North Kingstown. While part-time parochial vicar at St. Theresa’s in Pawtucket, he served as Chaplain at St. Raphael Academy High School He was chaplain to the Rhode Island Men of St. Joseph, and at Salve Regina University. As a pastor, he has served the people of Christ the King Church in West Warwick and St. Brendan’s Parish in Riverside.
Fr. Codega currently serves as a member of the Diocesan Finance Council and is serving his third term on the Diocesan Presbyteral Council. He was appointed to the Town of Middletown Wellness and Prevention Coalition. He has served on the Bishop’s College of Consultors, a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Committee, Marriage Advisory Board, and various other committees.
Among other related ministries, he has been an executive board member at the Narraganset Council of the Boy Scouts of America, an advisory board member to the National Organization for Marriage, and a Theological Consultant and Editorial Writer for the Rhode Island Catholic newspaper.
In July of 2021, Fr. Codega was appointed pastor to the people of St. Lucy’s parish in Middletown.
